In this overview-oriented workshop we will explore the signs and symptoms related to Post Traumatic Stress. We will discuss stigma and diagnosis, as well as brain function and chemistry, as they relate to trauma. We'll discuss the use of cutting edge treatment practices that are effective in treating trauma. We'll round out the discussion by exploring how these methods are used specifically with complex clinical compositions, prevention, screening, and treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

-Describe 3 clinical trends related to trauma and recovery 
-Describe at least two cutting edge treatment options that are effective in treating trauma
-Discuss relevant statistics related to trauma 
-Implement the use of a detailed list of screening questions to aid in prevention (screening tool will be provided).
-Describe at least 3 symptoms related to trauma and how these symptoms inhibit functioning.

Aynisa Leonardo is a Licensed Clinical Art Therapist (LCAT, ATR-BC), who has been in the field of mental health services for 12 years. She is the Director of Military Services at Long Island Center for Recovery. Her prior experience includes working in inpatient, outpatient, and non-profit settings with clients experiencing post-traumatic stress, addiction, family conflict, and other mental health challenges. She has concentrated on advanced program development and clinical education, locally and nationally. She continues to provide evidence-based and interactive style presentations to hospitals, non-profits, and corporate agencies, in an effort to raise awareness of current trends and improve competency within the healthcare community. 

Aynisa is passionate about the use of the Arts and Culture as means to heal. She herself has a background in film and photography and continues these hobbies in her spare time. Aynisa is not musically inclined, but is a great appreciator of music, attending live concerts whenever possible, as her favorite practice to unwind. On any given evening, you may find Aynisa cooking and listening to music with her family, and/or planning her next vacation to any beach destination.
